WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE SELECTION RESULTS, AKELA TROHPY & CURLING!

22^nd WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE 2011

Congratulations to Gavin, Matthew Bu and Jake(from St Matthew with Holy Trinity) William, Dominic, Andrew W (Burnley District), Matthew Ba, Matthew Bl, Jamie, James , Joe, Sarah and Lewis (Pendle District) on being selected as members of the East Lancashire Contingent which will visit the 22^nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. All 17 young people from Burnley and Pendle faced fierce competition from the total of 65 Scouts and Explorer Scouts from East Lancashire for the 36 vacancies. Everyone did their best throughout the rigorous selection weekend at Whitehough and the successful Scouts can be justifiably proud of their achievements. It is regrettable, but understandable, that 4 young people from Burnley and Pendle were amongst the 29 Scouts who were not successful. We also Congratulate Sam (Pendle District) on being selected as one of the four Contingent Leaders!! We wish them success in all that they do. However, the Jamboree Experience starts now with the crucial task of fund-raising and I trust that everyone will give our young people the support they deserve.

Congratulations to St Cuthbert’s Cubs on Winning the Akela Trophy and St Stephen’s Beavers on Winning both the District and County Curling Competitions! Thank you to everyone who took part or assisted in the organisation of these events.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the Joint District’s Halloween Weekend at Thornthwaite Hostel in October and also the Explorer Scout’s Weekend at Hebden Hey in November. It was very pleasing to see both leaders and young people working together in harmony in the true spirit of Scouting .
