GROUP NEWSLETTER SPRING 2010

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who attended our Coffee, Bun and Bingo Evening and helped to raise almost £200 for the World Scout Jamboree Fund. Special thanks go to everyone who made buns or donated prizes and helped on the evening. Thank you to the Scouts who collected coins in empty water bottles to increase their awareness of the global issues affecting water supplies and in doing so raised over £60 in aid the charities that assist in these areas. Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting and Open Night and a big Thank You to all our young people who took part in the Open Night!

GOLD STANDARD SCOUTING!

We are proud to report that 5 of our Scouts have completed the prestigious Chief Scouts Gold Award, the highest award in the Scout sections. Andrew R, Gavin, Jake, Matthew B and Robert F have each completed the requirements to gain their individual Adventure, Creative, Fitness, Community, Global, Outdoors, Outdoors Plus, Promise and Expedition Challenge Awards. These have required our young people to commit themselves to participate in all the training activities and residential experiences featured in our varied and balanced programme.

We are also very pleased that 3 of our Cub Scouts have completed the equally prestigious Chief Scouts Silver Award. Jack BC, Kenan and Robert S have completed similar challenging requirements appropriate to their age by making sure that they attend all Pack Meetings and participate in all our outdoor activities and camps

SUBSCRIPTIONS

As announced by our Treasurer at the Annual General Meeting, it is now three years since our monthly Membership Subscriptions were last increased and we thank all parents for supporting our various fund-raising events which has enabled an increase to be deferred. However, in view of rising costs, it is now necessary to increase the Monthly Subscription from £10 to £12 starting in April 2010. Subs are payable for 10 months per year (There are no Subs due for July and August).

We would add that our Subs include the Headquarters, County & District Subscriptions including insurance, which currently total £30 per year. Some Scout Groups charge this amount as an annual payment in addition to similar levels of Subscriptions as ours Scout Group.
